L01 - Web Design Brief

I have been given the task of creating a website based on the Pittencrief Glasshouse in Pittencrief Park, Dunfermline. The website will be very informative and also slightly educational as well with opening times of the glasshouse but also containing information on the history of the building and images to correspond with that. It will also contain information in the surrounding area of Pittencrief Park and I hope to raise awareness for families to come and visit the area.

I would need to gather a lot of information about the building which I could either visit for a day, taking images and gathering information but also using the internet to gather information from other websites. Because of the locality of the glasshouse, I would not have any issues or problems visiting the area multiple times.

My website would be aimed at the age range of about 30+ as they are the most likely age range to visit a museum but I must also ensure that my website is attractive enough for families to bring their children to the park for the day. The educational aspects would be suitable for any age range but I would like to make it light reading for possibly children who are looking to use the site as research material.

There are a few problems that may arise with the creation of the website. I am not very competent in Wordpress or Dreamweaver so I would need to learn these before I would be able to begin the creation of the website which means I will need to take this time into consideration before beginning. My time management is also an issue as it is not my strong point but to get over this I will create a time table to ensure that I keep on the right track and not find myself running out of time too quickly. I have not done photography for nearly a year so I would need to get my skills up to scratch before going out and taking the pictures.

The main pages I will include in my website are a home page; this could be a web splash area or possibly just a basic home page that would direct you to the other aspects of the website. An information page would contain opening times with possibly a map or even route planner style map that would allow you to enter your current location and get a detailed route on how to get there. A contact page will allow visitors to the site to ask additional questions and I will also include a separate guestbook style page that will allow visitors to leave their own feedback and reviews on the website or the glasshouse itself. Using javascript I will create a gallery of images of both inside and outside of the glasshouse as well as the surrounding area. The biggest page I will be creating is the history page that will contain all the information about the museum and the surrounding area of Pittencrief Park.
